Dive into Germany’s diversity and explore the autochthonous German minorities as well as the Low German speaker group from a fresh perspective!

Who we are

“Autochthonous“ means “sprung from the land itself”. Danes, Frisians and Sorbs or Wends have their own “settlement regions”. These are historically established regions of origin where their cultures and languages are protected and promoted. For the German Sinti and Roma, this region is the whole of Germany, and for Low German as a regional language, it is the northern federal states. Of course, members of the minorities also live outside the settlement regions as they live their individual lives.
